Pentecost and the week ahead at St Mary’s – Sunday 19th May

Pentecost and the week ahead at St Mary’s – Sunday 19th May

Published: 18th May, 2024

This Sunday is the great feast of Pentecost, the day when we celebrate with great joy the gift of the Holy Spirit to the Church.  We hear the story of the giving of the Holy Spirit in the Acts of the Apostles, and the miraculous gift of communicating the gospel given to the Apostles.  The story is an invitation to pray for the gifts of the Spirit in our own day, and to reflect also on communication: communication in general, because so many of the problems of the Church and the world come down to the difficulty of communication; and communication of the gospel in particular.  This Sunday, as well as celebrating Pentecost with the usual round of morning services, there is also Choral Evensong at St Mary’s, followed by drinks, to which everyone is welcome.
