Sunday 21st January – The Third Sunday of Epiphany

Sunday 21st January – The Third Sunday of Epiphany

Published: 20th January, 2024

This Sunday we hear the wonderful story of the Wedding at Cana.  During this Epiphany season we have been hearing about different moments from Jesus’ early life and ministry in which some aspect of His identity is revealed.  The Wedding at Cana is a particularly rich example.  The evangelist says that Jesus revealed His glory, and His disciples believed in Him, and in this story His glory is revealed in several ways: the miracle reveals His authority over nature, but also His care for the dignity of the poor; the wine points us to the sacrament of the Eucharist; and Jesus’ provision of wine at the wedding feast reveals Him as the True Bridegroom, in whom the relationship between God, humanity and all creation is restored.

At St Mary’s at 9.30am we welcome as our guest preacher Debbie Bruwer, Debt Centre Manager at the Henley Churches Debt Centre.  Debbie will talk to us about her work, and the collection will be taken for the work of the national Christians Against Poverty charity, of which our Debt Centre is a part.  There are also volunteering opportunities at the Debt Centre, which Debbie will be happy to talk about if you would like to find out more.  Please do come and hear Debbie talk about her work.
